Laver Cup rules out changes in schedule despite Roland Garros overlap

Laver Cup 2020 will go ahead as per its original schedule from September 25 to 27 this year even as the dates clash with the revised schedule of French Open, which has now be deferred from September 20 to October 4.

The Laver Cup authorities while miffed with the Roland Garros revised dates overlapping with the Boston event has stated that they won’t alter their schedule.

“The tennis world learned that the French Tennis Federation intends to schedule Roland Garros from Sept 20 to Oct 4 due to the impact of COVID-19.  These dates overlap with the dates of Laver Cup 2020, already sold out, and scheduled for September 25 to 27 at TD Garden in Boston,” the Laver Cup authorities said in a statement and added “this announcement came as a surprise to us and our partners – Tennis Australia, the USTA and the ATP. It raises many questions and we are assessing the situation. At this time, we want our fans, sponsors, broadcasters, staff, volunteers, players and the great city of Boston to know that we intend to hold Laver Cup 2020 as currently scheduled.”

The Roland Garros authorities while suspending the Grand Slam’s May-June schedule in wake of the Coronavirus threat had announced on Tuesday that tournament will now be held on the Red Clay courts in Paris from September 20 to October 4.
