Roger Federer was the first one to arrive in London and along with Stefanos Tsitsipas he hit the courts for practice on Monday. Novak Djokovic made his arrival on Monday and along with Andy Murray, he entered the 02 Arena for practice on Tuesday and the duo were given a warm welcome by Federer. Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini, who is a substitute player too joined them and all of them were involved in a practice session.
During the session, Matteo Berrettini and Novak Djokovic took sometime off to have some fun and posted a video on Twitter for which Rafael Nadal replied by tweeting, “Hey… I am coming tomorrow… Landing in London in the morning… wait for me.”
After losing in the fourth round at the US Open this year, Nadal has been at his home in Spain and is all set to return after the short break. The Spaniard, who has won a record 22 Grand Slam titles is likely to partner Federer on Friday in the doubles contest which will be the Swiss Legend’s final match of his career as he is not going to participate in the singles in the tournament.
Rafael Nadal has always shared a good rapport off the Tennis courts with Federer despite the two players having enjoyed a great rivalry on the court for the last two decades. If the duo join hands together for the doubles, it will be the second time in the history of the Laver Cup one can witness the two legends playing on the same side of the court. They last played together in the inaugural edition of the Laver Cup in 2017 and won the doubles contest against Sam Querrey and John Isner.
Speaking about Nadal, Federer said, “We always got along really well. For us as well to go through a career that we both have had and to come out on the other side and being able to have a nice relationship, I think is maybe a great message as well, to not just tennis but sports and maybe even beyond. For that reason I think it would be great.”
