As per reports, the Spanish clubs are even considering going on strike if the Government does not succumb to their pressure. LaLiga fans could be deprived of seeing the league’s best stars, like Karim Benzema, Vinicius Jr, Robert Lewandowski this weekend if the clubs eventually call for a strike on October 28. According to reports, 39 out of 42 clubs in the top two divisions in Spain have threatened to strike unless the Spanish Government rejects the idea of a European Super League. The three clubs who are understood to be in favour of the Super League are Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is desperate to revive his failed project and La Liga clubs are now increasingly determined to stop him. The ESL issue is now becoming more of a political one with the business and existence of the smaller clubs of Spain at stake.

Club Presidents have already met Spain’s sports minister Miquel Iceta. They want to see an update to Spain’s general ‘Sports Law’ that would see an official rejection to the idea of a Super League. However, the meeting has not yielded any outcome yet and time is running out.

Meanwhile, the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales has brushed aside fears of La Liga being suspended this weekend. “I am convinced that neither the government nor the opposition party are going to be complicit in this. Are the government and the largest opposition party now going to change the rules of the game and try to make what is illegal legal?

It would be a very serious issue without precedent in the Spanish legal system”, Rubiales told reporters regarding the rumours of clubs going on strike this weekend.

A final decision regarding the ‘Strike’ will be taken by the La Liga after their meeting on on Thursday, October 27. If the strike is eventually agreed upon, all La Liga matches this game week from October 29 to November 1 will be suspended.
