La Liga 2020: Major blow for Real Madrid as Eden Hazard and Casemiro test positive for Covid-19

La Liga 2020: Real Madrid has confirmed that their Belgian winger Eden Hazard and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro have tested positive for Covid-19. Both the players will undergo a period of self-isolation and are set to miss the next few fixtures.

Eden Hazard who stepped on the pitch after missing the initial weeks of the campaign due to injury will have to face another spell on the sidelines. He has only featured in 3 games for Los Blancos in 2020-21.

Earlier this week, defender Eder Militao was tested positive and had to miss the Champions League fixture against Inter Milan.

The statement from the club read: “Real Madrid CF announces that our players Casemiro and Hazard have given positive results in the Covid-19 tests carried out on Friday morning.

“All the other players and the coaching staff of the first team, as well as all club employees who work directly with them, gave negative results in that same test carried out yesterday.”

With Dani Carvajal and Nacho Fernandez out due to injury, Lucas Vasquez will get to keep his position at right-back. Vinicius Jr. might replace Eden Hazard at the left-wing position.

Real Madrid plays their next fixture against Valencia who is currently 13th on the table with 8 points. A victory could see them on the top of the table with 2 points above the current leaders Real Sociedad.
