Kimpembe held the position of vice-captain for quite some time before Mbappe was decided to be his successor. Kylian’s promotion to become the vice-captain comes less than 12 months after he signed a new 3-year contract. It was reported that Galtier and Kimpembe held talks to defuse the situation. According to reports, the PSG manager had to explain to the center-back why he had been stripped of the role.

Mbappe took the captaincy for the first time during their Monday Coupe de France victory over the sixth-tier US Pays de Cassel with Marquinhos sitting on the bench. After the match, Galtier said, ‘It has been defined like that since the start of the season. I had decided that Kylian should be the vice-captain. He stayed at PSG and he deserves the armband when ‘Marqui’ is not there.’

Kimpembe was unhappy with this decision and took to Social Media to talk about the same. His story said, ‘In the last few hours I have heard and read a lot about myself. I therefore wish to make things clear in order to avoid continuing to spread false information in this regard. I was not made aware of this decision, this is completely false… That said, I will always respect the decisions of the club.’
