Hear what KL Rahul has to say after the loss

MI seal comprehensive 48 runs win

A few enterprising shots from K Gowtham but it was way beyond his reach always. KXIP finish with 143/8 and the Mumbai Indians win by 48 runs.

57 needed from last over. 12 from the penultimate over. Boult also got a wicket, of Bishnoi, who played the slice shot straight to Surya at backward point. A boundary in the over for Shami and a six for Gowtham. KXIP-135/8 after 19 overs

There’s hardly any celebration. The result is now just a formality. Bishnoi sliced the fuller delivery from Boult straight to Surya at backward point, who takes a good catch. FOW-125/8

KXIP have now lost Sarfaraz and most of their hope. Pattinson with another wicket as he returns to the attack. He got rid of Sarfaraz with a toe-crusher as he was dismissed LBW. Bishnoi is the new batsman. 69 still needed. KXIP-123/7 after 18 overs

Sarfaraz latest to depart; KXIP 7 down

Pattinson traps Sarfaraz Ahmed LBW. Pattinson back to bowl the 18th. And he gets Sarafaraz out LBW off the first ball. He is gone for 7. And KXIP are down to the tail enders. FOW-121/7

Sarfaraz cannot get anything away against Bumrah. A brilliant diving save by Suryakumar Yadav at point. Off the last ball, Neesham skies a shot and is caught by SKY. Bumrah finish with figures of 2/10 after 3 and MI in complete control. KXIP-112/6 after 16 overs; need 80 in 4 overs

It was high full toss from Jasprit Bumrah Neesham didn’t get power on it. It lobbed up in the air for a simple catch to Suryakumar Yadav. It’s a one-way traffic towards MI now.

A great night for Chahar. Kept the scoring in check in the middle overs and now finishes the spell with the wicket of Maxwell in his last over. 83 needed from 30 deliveries

KXIP-109/5 after 15 overs

Maxwell back in the hut for 11

Glenn Maxwell’s struggling innings comes to an end. He was having a torrid time against the leg-spinner and finally Rahul Chahar puts an end to his misery. Maxwell went for the big slog sweep, didn’t get it anywhere near tthe middle and was holed out at deep mid wicket. 4 overs 26 for 2 for Rahul, top stuff from the leggie. FOW-107/5

2nd Strategic Timeout taken

A wicket on return for Pattinson. Pooran was looking like the danger man. Pattinson’s plan was simple, to angle the ball away from Pooran. The first ball was sliced over the circle. Pooran tried the same on second ball but the fuller delivery kissed the bat on its way to the keeper. KXIP-105/4 after 14 overs ;87 runs still needed from 36 deliveries

KXIP go 4 down

Pooran sliced the offside delivery on the first ball. The timing wasn’t right and he got two runs. Backed himself again but this time the delivery was a bit fuller and took a faint edge to the keeper. FOW-101/4

KXIP-99/3 after 13 overs

Krunal back for his last over of the day. He bowled full to Pooran to make him target the big fence on midwicket. To Maxwell, he bowled wide to force him to target the same area. Eventually forcing the batters to stick to singles. Just five from the over. 93 needed for 7 overs

Bumrah back into attack. The first ball is short and slow, Pooran pulls it with venom to cow corner for a boundary but Burmah makes a good comeback form there. Eventually, just seven from the over. 98 still needed. KXIP-94/3 after 12 overs

Maxwell has trouble reading Chahar’s loopy spin. An edge just goes over a leaping slip fielder. Pooran makes room and smashes a six down the ground against the leg spinner. 15 runs come off the 11th over. KXIP are just finding some of their momentum back. KXIP-87/3 after 11 overs

MI waste review

The third umpire took ages to decide whether there was an edge in it or not and when he finally did conclude that there was nothing, the ball tracking showed the ball had pitched outside leg. So the decision stays and Nicholas Pooran survives.

End of 10 overs; KXIP-72/3

Maxwell joins Pooran at 5 with KXIP struggling in MI’s spin web. Just 4 runs off Chahar’s over. Pattinson back to bowl the 9th. And he gets the ball to beat Pooran’s bat as well. Pooran comes back well with a flayed four through point. KXIP need 120 runs in the last 10 overs

Excellent over from Rahul Chahar

Just 4 runs and a wicket from Chahar. Glenn Maxwell is the next man in. KXIP-64/3 after 9 overs; need more 128 runs from 66 balls

KL Rahul departs; Strategic Timeout taken

KL Rahul tries to flick but misses the delivery as Rahul Chahar’s bottles the middle stump. FOW-60/3

KXIP need 132 runs more from 72 balls

Bumrah and the spinners have strangled KXIP after a strong start. Krunal Pandya continues in the 8th. Pooran swings and misses at a couple, but then connects to hit a monstrous six. Out of the stadium! An edge for four to follow. KXIP-60/2 after 8 overs

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar introduced into the attack as soon as powerplay gets over. Good over by the tweaker. Just four singles from the over. Boundaries have not come for last four overs and KXIP batsmen. KXIP-45/2 after 7 overs

End of Powerplay!

KXIP-41/2 after 6 overs

Karun Nair gone for duck!

Karun Nair joins KL Rahul. And is Out! For a thre-ball duck. Krunal Pandya strikes this time. Nair chops one down on to his stumps. Two quick wickets have rocked Punjab now. FOW-39/2

Agarwal dismissed for 25

Agarwal castled. It was an uppish delivery that held its line after pitching, the angle was into the batsman and Agarwal was looking for a shot to midwicket but missed the ball and it crashed into the stumps. KXIP-38/1 after 5 overs

Milestone for Mayank Agarwal!

The runs keep coming as Boult continues in the 3rd over. 9 runs off it. MI look to turn things around, bring in Krunal Pandya into the attack in the 4th over. Will taking the pace off dislodge this start that KXIP have gotten to? It does work. Just 4 singles in the over. KXIP-37/0 after 4 overs

A better over from Boult as compared to last one in terms of line. More offish this time but still he concedes nine runs. A boundary for Agarwal as he picks the gap behind backward point but there were some very good slashes and drives as well as the pair collected singles and doubles. KXIP-33/0 after 3 overs

Rahul pulls for his boundary off the last ball of the first over. KXIP have come out firing in this chase. 12 runs come off Boult’s over. James Pattinson bowls the 2nd over. Mayank attacks him straightaway, a four over the covers off the first ball. Excellent running between wickets by the Karnataka mates as 12 runs come off the 2nd over as well. KXIP-24/0 after 2 overs

Strong start from KXIP

12 coming from the first over. Boult has been guilty of straying on leg side and being short. Agarwal got the first boundary with a pull shot and Rahul repeats it on last ball for second boundary of the over. KXIP-12/0 after 1 overs

We are back with KXIP’s chase

KingsXI Punjab pacer Mohammad Shami has take once again taken top place in the IPL 2020 Purple Cap race (Read more)

End of MI innings

Six to end the innings with! Kieron Pollard completes a hat-trick of sixes, four sixes in the Gowtham over. Mumbai Indians finish with 191 /4 after their 20 overs.

50 partnership for Pandya-Pollard

19 runs off the 19th over

Uncanny numbers game but true! Mohammed Shami starts strong but in the end goes for 19 runs after going for 4 boundaries in the over. MI-166/4 after 19 overs

6,2,4,4,1,1-18 runs off the 18th over

Neesham bowls the 18th. KXIP bleed runs in Neesham’s later overs. Neesham finishes with figures of 0/52MI-147/4 after 18 overs

Pollard saved by DRS

Inside edge! The umpire will have to reverse his decision. Pollard went for the review straightaway. That is generally an indication that the batsman is certain to have got something on it. It was a superb yorker from Shami, a proper toe-crusher. MI-129/4 after 17 overs

Shami back to bowl the 17th over. Rohit goes for the lofted shot. Neesham and Maxwell pull off a joint effort at long off to catch him out. Rohit goes for 70 off 45 balls. His attack on Neesham has set the innings up for s strong finish though.

2nd Strategic Timeout taken
Massive over for MI; 22 off it

Neesham bowls the 16th. Still 2 overs that KXIP need to get out from their 5th bowling option. Maxwell could be called upon if things go south in this over. Rohit pulls for a four to bring up his 50, off 40 balls. Drives for four the next ball. The swivelled pull for six the next ball. MI are up and running now! Another six off the next ball. Lofted over covers. 22 runs from the over.

Half century for Rohit Sharma

A ramp shot past fine-leg, FIFTY for Rohit Sharma. It hasn’t been the dominating Rohit innings but it has been an important one nonetheless.

100 up for MI

Pollard begins the 15th over, bowled by Bishnoi, with exactly those intentions. Six over long on. Just the second six of the night, but Pollard makes it look like he’s been hitting them out of the park all day. Rohit Sharma follows suit. Six over midwicket. MI-102/3 after 15 overs

Pollard is the new man in after Ishan’s dismissal. Gowtham keeps the run flow in check by taking the wicket off the first delivery. Pollard can’t take long time to get his eye in. The run rate is on the slower side. MI-87/3 after 14 overs

Gowtham ends the misery of Ishan Kishan. The southpaw tries to clear the longer boundary on the leg-side but hits the ball straight to the fielder. FOW-83/3

Cottrell bowls his final over. Excellent spell from Cottrell. He went for runs in the previous match but comes back well today. His four went for 20 runs with a wicket to his name. MI-83/2 after 13 overs

A decent one from Jimmy Neesham, no boundaries in it. The Mumbai Indians need a move on now. And looks like Sheldon Cottrell has been brought back into the attack for the 13th over. MI-80/2 after 12 overs

Ishan Kishan dropped!

Ravi Bishnoi did all the hard to get there, got both hands to it but it just popped out as soon as his knees made contact with the ground. Ishan Kishan should consider himself very lucky.

50 partnership comes up for Ishan Kishan-Rohit Sharma

A huge six over mid-wicket from Ishan Kishan’s bat, this might just be the push he needs tonight. A very good over for MI, 11 runs off it. Bishnoi slightly off his mark. 50 partnership also for Rohit and Kishan. MI-73/2 after 11 overs

End of 10 overs
Rohit saved by inches!

Gowtham into the attack. Rohit tries to pierce the off-side field with his cut but hits it straight to the fielder. The throw is quick and stumps are broken. Third umpire takes a look at it but Rohit is safe.  MI-62/2 after 10 over

Time for Strategic Timeout

MI-58/2 after 9 overs

50 comes up for MI

Shami back into the attack. Rohit guides the first ball to third-man for one run. Bowls the second one to Ishan’s pads as the batsman tries for a slog. No timing at all but they take a quick single. Another good over for Punjab. Just four singles. MI-51/2 after 8 overs

Excellent start from Jimmy Neesham

Jimmy Neesham was brought into the attack for the seventh over of the innings and he made a good start, giving away just 6 runs from the over. Rohit Sharma was lucky to get a boundary off the outside edge, which would have carried straight to the second slip had there been one. MI-47/2 after 7 overs

End of Powerplay

Ishan Kishan joins Rohit at 4. Cottrell continues in the 5th over. Rohit moves to double digits. Kishan gets going with a boundary in the over. Just 7 runs from the over. Rahul bowls Gowtham in the 6th over. Rohit gets consecutive boundaries against him, punching him through the off side field. MI-41/2 after 6 overs

Cottrell bowls his third. The second ball is a sharp bouncer to Ishan but the batsman does well to negotiate and take a single. After the four, Cottrell again sends a bouncer. This time, Ishan takes no risk. Lets the ball go to the keeper. Decent over, seven off it.  MI-29/2 after 5 overs

Bishnoi bowls his first of the night. Rohit calls for a quick single after sweeping the ball to short fine-leg. Good throw from Shami does the trick as Mumbai lose their second wicket. Ishan Kishan off the mark on his first ball. MI-22/2 after 4 overs

Suryakumar Yadav run out

Gotta feel bad for Suryakumar! He fails to cross the line on time as a direct hit from Shami results in his dismissal.

MI-18/1 after 3 overs

Cottrell bowls the 3rd over. Went for 30 runs in his last over in the RR match. A maiden to start off today. Suryakumar gets consecutive fours off him. A half volley punched through the covers. Another shot in the same area off the next ball. Both Rohit and Surya on 9 each.

Excellent review from Rohit Sharma

Shami traps Rohit and the umpire raises his finger for LBW! But Rohit takes the review and it’s clearly missing the wickets. Rohit survives! MI-8/1 after 2 overs

5K runs for Rohit Sharma

Mohammed Shami pitches it outside off stump to Rohit Sharma and theMumbai Indians captain gleans it for a boundary through covers for 4. Rohit surpasses 5000-run mark in IPL.

Maiden wicket from Cottrell

Cottrell starts off with a good length ball as de Kock is beaten. Similar second ball, this time De Kock times it but straight to the fielder. The third ball is pitched up. De Kock drives but no run. The southpaw goes for a backfoot punch in the next ball. Again straight to the fielder. Suryakumar Yadav is the new man in after the fall of De Kock. And it’s a wicket maiden. What a start! MI-0/1 after 1 over
