Kane Williamson: Muru – New Zealand batter Kane Williamson gained more fans by gifting a bat to 99-year-old fan Muru. The former New Zealand batter made Muru’s 99th birthday special by interacting, and thanking him for supporting New Zealand cricket. Muru’s happiness knew no bounds and he took to Project NZ and said, “He’s (Williamson) not only a cricketer a man of character. He typically represents a real typical Kiwi.” Follow NZ vs SL Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

Muru’s daughter said that supporting New Zealand has always been his passion right through since following cricket. She also shed light on the moment when Muru became a Kane Williamson fan. It was during the 2014 Test series against Pakistan in UAE when Williamson showed large-heartedness to donate match fees to terrorist victims in Pakistan. Muru never looked back since and keenly watches the New Zealand batter’s performances.

Muru further said, “You (Williamson) have given cricket a new character. Not playing the game for winning”.

Muru is rooting for New Zealand, as they eye ODI series win over Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series. The 99-year-old has predicted the blackcaps to win the series. Speaking of the first game, the  Kiwis have comprehensively destroyed Lankans in 1st ODI at Eden Park. NZ were all-out on 274 in 1st innings after SL invited hosts to bat first. Chamika Karunaratne bagged a four-fer. Finn Allen (51), Rachin Ravindra (49), and Daryl Mitchell (47) played some fine innings for Kiwis.

Sri Lanka’s innings never took off while chasing a par-total. The Sri Lankan batters made some poor shot choices, which enabled Henry Shipley and Matt Henry to bowl superbly with the new ball. By 10 overs, they were 31-5, and from that point on, there was no turning back.
