- The only thing that could go against Stokes is his long-standing finger injury, that has seen him miss Test matches
- If Stokes could tackle that issue then he could be the captain due to his intimidating presence in the dressing room

Joe Root Steps Down: Broad and Buttler in fray
Apart from Stokes, Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler are also the other likely candidates to take over leadership. Broad has played 152 Test matches, while Buttler has played 57 matches. Both were part of Root’s Test team for the longest time before they were dropped for the West Indies tour after the Ashes drubbing.
Broad’s age could go against him as he is in the twilight of his career. Buttler’s poor form in red-ball cricket might be the reason he not being named as the leader.
