Adrian Luna is an Uruguayan youth international and has represented his country at the U-17 and U-20 levels. He was part of the squad for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria and scored two goals in the competition helping his team reach the quarter-final. Luna was also part of the U-20 squad for the 2011 South American Youth Championship and U-20 FIFA World Cup, scoring a total of six goals at the level.

Adrian Luna is fresh off winning the A-League title with Melbourne City. Melbourne lifted both the Premier and the Championship titles, for the first time in their history, with Luna contributing three goals and four assists. The Uruguayan left the club after the expiry of his contract and his stint with Kerala Blasters will mark his first stint in Asia.

ISL 2021-22: Adrian Luna’s journeyman career before Kerala Blasters
Adrian Luna over his career has shown great adaptability and moving to a new country shouldn’t be a problem for the 29-year-old attacker. Luna started his career with youth academies of Club Atletico Progreso, Montevideo Wanderers and Defensor Sporting in Uruguay. He had a stint in Spain with Espanyol, Gimnastic and CE Sabadell before returning to Defensor. Luna then moved to Mexico, where he plied his trade at Tiburones Rojos and Venados FC before joining Melbourne City in 2019.

Interestingly, while Adrian Luna has not played in the ISL before, he has partnered with some of the foreign stars who have made their mark in the league. The 29-year-old has played with former FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC star Manuel Lanzarote, during their stint as a Sabadell. He also teamed up with former NorthEast United’s Simao Sabrosa at Espanyol. He had joined the Catalonian club in the first place as a replacement for former Delhi Dynamos and ATK star Kalu Uche.
ISL 2021-22: Aggressive Kerala Blasters to continue signing spree
In a club career spanning over 11 years, Adrian Luna has made 336 appearances for all clubs, scoring 47 times along with providing 46 assists. The Uruguayan is the Kerala Blasters’ first overseas signing after new head coach Ivan Vukomanovic took over earlier in June. The Blasters have been active in the market and have signed Sanjeev Stalin, Ruivah Hormipam, Vincy Barretto and Harmanjot Khabra so far. Luna’s announcement indicates that more new signings and contract extensions could follow in the coming weeks. The Yellow Army finished a disappointing 10th last year and will hope that the arrivals of Adrian Luna and Co. can steer them closer to a playoff spot.
