ISL 2020-21: Six players from ISL clubs test covid-19 positive

Covid-19 has infiltrated Indian football now. Six players from Indian Super League (ISL) have tested positive for COVID-19 before they were entered the bio-secure bubble in Goa. According to Times of India report, the players are from FC Goa, Hyderabad FC and defending champions ATK Mohun Bagan. Two players have recovered, while four are under home-isolation.

As per the ISL guidelines, anyone who tests positive will have to go under quarantine for 14 days and comply with local government guidelines. Following this, he will have to get tested three times — Day 10, 12 and Day 14 — and can only enter Goa if he comes negative from Day 12 and 14. The seventh season of the Indian League will be held in Goa behind closed doors. Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), organisers of the ISL, has decided to host the entire season in Goa this time, due to the pandemic.

The players have been told to take every possible precaution, but sometimes it is beyond the club’s control,” a source told TOI. “One player tested positive for Covid-19 when he had gone to the hospital for a test. He had conducted two previous tests, both negative, but the third test turned out to be positive,” TOI report added.

As per ISL’s health and safety protocols for 2020/21 season, there should be seven-day isolation before travelling with three negative RT-PCR tests. Their third negative test should not be more than 48 hours prior to departure.

The seventh edition will begin from November 21.
