IPL 2021 New Team – Three days to go to know whether IPL 2021 will get new teams or not: A big decision on IPL 2021 is just three days away as the BCCI AGM on December 24th will decide whether IPL 2021 will have new teams to its roaster or not. While there are a number of points for the agenda, the addition of new teams in IPL 2021 will be a matter of top priority and decision on the same is expected to be finalized in the BCCI AGM according to the information available with InsideSport.
IPL 2021 – BCCI AGM to decide whether new teams in IPL 2021 will be increased or not
The biggest conundrum surrounding the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is the addition of new teams to the already existing roster of eight. According to the agenda of the December 24 AGM, there is a probability of the addition of new teams.
“Approval on inclusion of 2 (two) new teams to the Indian Premier League” was listed on the agenda as reported by InsideSport earlier.

It is worth noting that the proposal to increase two teams for the IPL 2021 will be formally floated for the approval of the house in the AGM on Dec 24th and if the proposal is approved, city of Ahmedabad is certain to be included as one of the franchise.
IPL 2021 New Team – Guwahati wants its own IPL team
Meanwhile, another contender in form of city of Guwahati has decided to throw their hat in the ring.
The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is mulling for a Guwahati-based team in the upcoming season of IPL. According to a report in local media, ACA secretary Devajit Lon Saikia has confirmed that the city of Guwahati will be proposed as one of the new team in the BCCI’s AGM scheduled for Dec 24th.
“Team are not granted to any state associations. BCCI AGM may approve inclusion of 1 or 2 teams for the next edition. Ahmedabad will be one of the city, other cities like Pune, Lucknow, Kanpur can also be included in the list. Inclusion of Guwahati in the list of potential cities at this stage is unlikely’, said the senior BCCI official.
Also, the names of Lucknow / Kanpur, Pune will come for discussion if the BCCI AGM decides to increase more than 1 team for IPL 2021 or IPL 2022.
In case BCCI AGM decides to postpone the proposal for the new teams for the IPL 2022, still Ahmedabad will be the first city that gets included in the IPL roaster
IPL 2021 New Team – BCCI a divided house on ‘feasibility of new teams for IPL 2021’
InsideSport earlier had reported that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah is completely in favour of introducing new teams from the next edition itself, but few others are questioning the feasibility of IPL teams for the 14th edition.
According to one of the BCCI official InsideSport spoke to, ‘time is too short for introduction of the new teams for IPL in 2021. Tendering, players auction and most importantly getting all the stakeholders on the same page will be really challenging in short-time span. We are of the view, any addition to the team should only happen for IPL 2022″
Another old BCCI functionary also is not comfortable with the idea of new IPL teams before 2022. According to this official, “Our broadcast rights deal with Star will end by IPL 2021. After the end of the cycle, we should introduce new teams so that the broadcast rights and other commercial partnership values can be increased. Final decision now will be taken in AGM only and according to me the plan to increase teams will be shelved this year’.
“Ten teams will mean 94 matches in the home and away format. That implies a bigger window for the tournament, which may be tough given the current situation”, said another BCCI official.
Whatever it is – the final decision about the new team will be taken on December 24th. Keep following the space for all LIVE UPDATES ?
