So, is Harsh Goenka going to foray into IPL? While his actual tweet may have been a light-hearted remark but the chairman of the RPG conglomerate may have serious aims of getting into the IPL business.
He doesn’t have to look far to get some inspiration. His own brother Sanji Goenka, founder and head of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka group, was the main owner of Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. This team, along with Gujarat Lions, was bought into the IPL in those two seasons to fill up the void left by the bans on two original sides – Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

RPS performed admirably in the 2017 season and reached the finals under the leadership of Steve Smith. The final was a tight affair where, despite a good knock by the skipper, RPS ended up on the losing side.
So, is Mr Harsh Goenka planning a similar move like his brother? Who can say, but passion for cricket is definitely there in the family.
This comment by Goenka also led to several funny comments of Twitter. Some people also pointed to the ‘cricket field’ in Goenka’s house and enquired about it. When asked which team in the IPL is his favourite, Goenka named Delhi Capitals.
Goenka currently serves as chairman of the RPG group of companies. This conglomerate was set up by his father RP Goenka. He took over as the chairman in 1988. His business empire is worth $3.80 billion and he is ranked 77 in the list of rich Indians.
