If cricket is a religion in India, Indian Premier League happens to be the most worshipped deity from sponsors’ perspective.

The latest ratings from POWA index, the data-driven real time sports evaluation engine, have evaluated the IPL as the most powerful sports platform in India. Even ahead of the international matches played by the Virat Kohli-led Team India. Then come the Indian Premier League teams with Mumbai Indians at the top, followed by reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.

The IPL has 25,107 points on the POWA index, while the Indian national team hovers around 20,421 in spite of heading International Cricket Council’s Test and One Day International rankings. These POWA index findings will come as a shot in the arm for the IPL host broadcaster Star Sports and franchisees who are out in the market to sell sponsorships for the upcoming 2019 season.

La Liga clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona come next in the category. LaLiga is working tirelessly to expand its base in India. WWE, who also come in below IPL in the Global POWA index rankings at position 20, with a 28,515 score.
