Anil Jayaraj, CEO of Viacom18 Sports, told e4m that the goal is to present IPL in a never-before way.
“We want to eliminate all barriers in terms of consumption – availability, affordability, and language. The reach of the LEAGUE will be bigger than IPL on TV. It will not be bigger by a small amount, but by a massive one,” added Jayaraj.
IPL LIVE Streaming:
- After just a 6-language IPL 2022 LIVE Streaming, it is set to change.
- Viacom18 is planning IPL 2023 LIVE Streaming in 11-12 languages with a pan-India language coverage.
- In addition to Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam, regional languages like Bhojpuri, Odia, and Assamese may find a place in the commentary.
- Gujarati will be a new addition in live commentary as well.

Why it is IPL’s Jio Moment? – So far, despite wide popularity, IPL Live streaming was never absolutely free. Disney+Hotstar required a subscription. Airtel, Vodafone and Jio also offered IPL live stream but in exchange for specific recharge.
But as Reliance disrupted the telecom market with never-before free and eventually cheap data packs, it is set to do the same with IPL. Having launched 5G services in metro cities, Reliance is aiming to lure consumers to a premium viewing experience of a cricket match.
If Reliance can successfully pull this off, it will be in a prime position to win BCCI Media Rights which will be out sometime this year. Disney+Star currently holds the rights to telecast India’s home matches and domestic cricket.
IPL 2023 Live Streaming: What changes to expect?
- Sports broadcasting and streaming in India have been done in Standard Definition (480p) and High-Definition (720p, 1080p).
- FIFA World Cup 2022 was the first sporting event that was live-streamed in 4K.
- Now, Viacom18 has set its sights on IPL.
- For the first time ever, IPL will be live-streamed in 4K (Ultra-High-Definition).
- Instead of upscaling 1080p or 1440p, IPL 2023 live streaming will be in native 4K UHD resolution.
- That means, every match will be life-like.
- As Viacom18 holds the digital rights of IPL 2023-27, it will offer multi-camera live-stream simultaneously through 5G technology.
- With that, viewers can choose a particular angle of a shot during LIVE streaming.
- Through JioFiber’s feature, one can also have a watch party for IPL 2023 matches.
- Currently, BT Sport provides 4K Live Streaming and Live telecast of the Premier League matches.
- In the US, all live sporting events are broadcast and live-streamed live on Fox Sports Network.
