2008 – Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals)

The only time that Pakistan players played in IPL was in 2008. Sohail Tanvir left a lasting impression helping Rajasthan Royals win the inaugural edition.  The left arm pacer with 22 wickets at an economy of 6.46 . Tanvir also picked up one four wicket and one five wicket haul.

2009-  RP Singh  (Deccan Chargers)

The left arm pacer was instrumental in Deccan Chargers winning the IPL title  in 2009.  His knack for taking wickets at crucial moments was one of the reasons why the Chargers managed to win the title. RP Singh finished the tournament with 23 wickets from 16 matches at an economy of 6.98.

2010 –Pragyan Ojha (Deccan Chargers)

The now defunct Deccan Chargers failed to defend the title but left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha emerged as the top wicket taker in the tournament. Ojha picked up 23 wickets from 16 matches at an economy of 6.98.

2011- Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians)

Lasith Malinga was the backbone of Mumbai Indians bowling lineup for many years and even helped them win titles. Malinga was the most effective bowler that season with 28 wickets at an economy of  5.95 . Despite such a brilliant season Mumbai Indians failed to reach the final.

2012-Morne Morkel (Delhi Daredevils)

South  Africa pacer, Morne Morkel  was instrumental in Delhi Daredevils topping the points table during league stage. He picked up 25 wickets that season but DD failed to get past the semi-final stage. Morkel however won the Purple cap.

2013-Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings)

Dwayne Bravo was  Chennai Super Kings’ bowling mainstay many years. In 2013 he became the first bowler in the IPL to pick more than 30 wickets. The medium-pacer picked up wickets at an economy of 7.95 which also earned him purple cap.

2014-Mohit Sharma (Chennai Super Kings)

Chennai Super Kings is one of the most consistent team in IPL history and every season they had one new face putting in brilliant performance. During the 2014 season Mohit Sharma hogged the limelight for his outstanding performance with the ball. The right pacer finished the camping with   24 wickets to his name in 16 matches at an economy of 8.39.

2015 – Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings)

The 2015 season was the second time that Dwayne Bravo won the purple cap in his IPL career. The West Indian all-rounder finished the campaign with 26 wickets from 17 matches at an economy of 8.14.

2016 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

The right arm pacer was instrumental in Sunrisers Hyderabad  winning their first IPL title.  Bhuvneshwar finished the campaign with 23 wickets from 17 matches at an economy of 7.42.

2017 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

After an outstanding 2016  season, Bhuvneshwar Kumar carried his form into the 017 season as well. He became the first bowler in IPL history to retain the Purple cap after picking up 26 wickets in 14 matches. He took those wickets at an economy of 7.05.

2018 — Andrew Tye (Kings XI Punjab)

The 2018 season was a disappointing on for Punjab Kings as they finished seventh on the table. However Australia pacer Andrew Tye had an outstanding campaign with the ball. He won the purple cap after taking 24 wickets which included three four wicket hauls.

2019 — Imran Tahir (Chennai Super Kings)

The veteran South Africa spinner topped the wicket chart with 26 wickets from 17  matches.  However his efforts were not enough to help Chennai Super Kings retain the title they had won in 2018.

2020 – Kagiso Rabada (Delhi Capitals) 

Having missed out on the Purple cap during the 2019 season, Kagiso Rabada finally lay his hands on the cap during the 2020 season.  The South African finished the campaign with 30 wickets from 17 matches. However his efforts went in vain as Delhi Capitals lost the final to Mumbai Indians.

2021- Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore) 

The Royal Challengers Bangalore made it to the play offs largely thanks to fine bowling effort from Harshal Patel. The right arm bowler finished the campaign with 32 wickets equaling Dwayne Bravo’s record in 2013.  Patel also recorded a hattrick against Mumbai Indians during the league stage encounter.

2022- Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals)

Rajasthan Royals made the final for the first time since 008 thanks to bowling exploits of Yuzvendra Chahal. While Jos Buttler scored runs with the bat, Chahal did the job on the bowling front finishing the season with 27 wickets from 17 matches. He right fully earned his maiden Purple cap  of his IPL career
