Over the years a variety of spinners have played crucial roles in the success of various IPL teams. A few years ago almost every team in the IPL had a lead Indian spinner in their line-up. But with the IPL expanded to 10 teams, not many franchises now enjoy the luxury of having experienced and quality Indian spinners in their line-ups. This dearth is now set to open the possibility of teams opting for an overseas spinner to lead their line-up.

Adam Zampa

Leg-spinners are an essential commodity to any team in the shortest format of the game. Being one, Adam Zampa is set to attract good bids in this edition of the IPL. The leg-spinner has plenty of experience in the international stage and also has featured in the IPL in the past. Zampa could come in handy especially on spin-friendly pitches in India. He has featured in 14 IPL matches in his career. He has picked up 21 wickets at an average of 17.62.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Mujeeb Ur Rahman came in as a mystery spinner and featured for teams like Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past. However unlike his compatriot Rashid Khan, his performances weren’t impressive in the league. This led to him finding no-takers in the previous auction. However he has been a constant feature for his national team and is also playing on a variety of overseas T20 league. The youngster has experience and he might be picked for a good price in the upcoming auction.

Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid is an integral part of England’s limited overs team. He was part of the Three Lions’ victorious campaign in this year’s T20 World Cup. The leggie had a terrific T20 World Cup, picking up 8 wickets. On slow and turning wickets he could come in handy for any team that picks him.

How many teams need spinners?

Sunrisers Hyderabad have an Auction purse of 42.2 Crore. Apart from Washington Sundar and Abhishek Sharma, they have not retained any other spinner in their line-up. A big buck of their remaining amount is expected to be invested on frontline international spinners.

Mumbai Indians too let go of spinners like Murugan Ashwin and Mayank Markande from their team. They go into the auction with a purse of 20.55 crores remaining.

Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy are the only spinners in the Kolkata Knight Riders line-up. While, Punjab Kings only have Rahul Chahar. Both the teams are also in need of another top spinner.
