Kunnummal is quickly making a name for himself as an all-format pitcher for Kerala. He was recently included in the India A squad for the tour to Bangladesh.
The right-handed batsman has attended trials with multiple franchises of late. The Kerala opener told a leading sports magazine that he has attended match simulation sessions with the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
“I had attended trials with Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan and Delhi Capitals. I had received calls for a couple of more trials, but I couldn’t attend them because of our State-team matches,” Kunnummal said
The 24-year-old revealed that it was Sanju Samson who led him to trials with Rajasthan Royals.
“Sanju Samson had taken a few of us for the trials at Rajasthan. I was able to perform well in the match simulations with RR and DC. Obviously, the selection at the auction isn’t in my hands and I am not thinking about it,” Kunnummal added.
Kunnummal has had an outstanding run for Kerala in 2022. He smashed three back-to-back centuries for Kerala in the group stage of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season earlier this year. Rohan followed it up with a fourth hundred in succession during his Duleep Trophy debut for South Zone a couple of months back.
Kunnummal is Kerala’s leading run-scorer in the tournament with 414 runs in seven innings but will miss the knockouts following his India A call-up.
Rajasthan Royals – Talented cricketers’ breeding ground
Since IPL inception in 2008, Rajasthan Royals probably has been the platform, that has given young cricketers to fly and achieve their dreams. Be it Ravindra Jadeja, Yusuf Pathan, or the most recent Yashasvi Jaiswal, all of them started their journey to stardom with RR.
With less than a month to go until the IPL 2023 auction, all 10 franchises are on the hunt for young talent. So don’t be surprised to see if Rajasthan’s paddle goes up for young Kunnummal.
