IPL 2023 Auction: Champions of IPL 2021, Chennai Super Kings failed miserably to defend their title in the last conducted IPL edition. The Yellow Army failed to perform on all fronts with an inside tussle going on between CSK senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and the team management. Dhoni managed to restore CSK’s pride after Jadeja’s disappointment on the leadership front, but that was not enough considering CSK’s legacy in the domestic tournament. CSK in search of a new skipper?
The upcoming IPL edition might be the last appearance for Dhoni. CSK might look to find an able candidate for the veteran in the upcoming auction. CSK might target some big names including Kane Williamson and Ben Stokes, but they have several options available in their squad as well. Ruturaj Gaikwad is the prominent contender for the spot.
Gaikwad recently heaped praises on Dhoni and said that he feels very lucky to play alongside him. “I feel very lucky to play with MS Dhoni. Lucky to share the dressing room with him. There is advice coming through from him every time, it’s the right kind of advice I feel because his guidance helped me a lot,” said Gaikwad.
The CSK team management has already said that Jadeja is not part of CSK’s leadership plans. “As far as CSK captaincy is concerned, MS will take a call after a discussion with the team management. We also have an auction coming up and we will keep our options open for a possible candidate. As things stand, Jadeja is not in plans for future captaincy. But things can change later,” a CSK source told InsideSport.IN.
