IPL 2023 Auction: 5 Reasons why IPL Auction in Kochi will be DIFFERENT from all previous auctions, Check Out

1. First time, 10 teams will be in a mini-auction

2. First time, two broadcasters will be producing IPL Auction

3. Kochi first city to host the first IPL Auction without any IPL team

4. First time, 21 players from J&K are in the auction shortlist after Umran Malik sensation

5. Franchises will focus on buying impact players after BCCI’s nod

This will be the first time that ten teams will be in a mini-auction. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are the two new teams in the IPL auction. These two franchises had a taste of the IPL mega auction earlier in February 2022. But the mini-auction will test these two teams’ character on how to utilize the remaining purse.

This will also be the first time ever that two broadcasters will be producing an IPL auction. The IPL mini-auction will be broadcast live on the Star Sports channel. Meanwhile, Viacom 18 will live stream an IPL mini-auction in India and other subcontinent regions. IPL mini-auction will also be streamed on Jio Cinema App and website. Over the last 16 years of IPL, this has not happened before. Only Sony and Star used to live stream as well.

But with BCCI locking in a new streaming partner in Viacom, the IPL auction is this time will have two broadcasters producing the auction.

The IPL mini-auction will be held in Kochi without the city boasting of any IPL team. Previously Kochi had an IPL team in the 2011 and 2012 editions, but later they faced a few legal issues. It’s been over 10 years since Kochi had a team of its own. Kochi thus will become the first city to host the IPL mini-auction, without any of their teams involved.

The IPL mini-auction will be historic for Jammu & Kashmir as many 21 players have been shortlisted in the IPL mini-auction. Umran Malik created magic in IPL 2022 season, and these 21 players will be hoping to do the same. Few IPL franchises have some of the Jammu & Kashmir stars on their radar. Mohammad Wasim Basheer is already dubbed Umran Malik 2.0. While Khajuria’s exploits with the bat in hand have made a few franchises excited.

J&K players in the auction list: Shubham Khajuria, Vivrant Sharma, Mujtaba Yousuf, Abid Mushtaq, Yudhvir Charak, Basit Bashir, Rasikh Dar, Waseem Khanday, Avinash Singh, Aman Sharma, Fazil Makaya, Ateev Saini, Shahrukh Dar, Lone Muzaffar, Auqib Dar, Asad Jamil Ahmed, Aashish Bhatt, Gourav Koul, Rajeev Singh, Mohd. Wasim, Sampark Gupta.

This year’s IPL auction is historic as BCCI have given nod to buying impact players. BCCI first implemented an impact substitute player in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and turned out to be a huge success. IPL teams will be interested in targeting such impact players in the mini-auction.
