Notably, Rohit Sharma’s team played only a couple of overseas players in the game against Faf du Plessis’ RCB – Dewald Brevis and Kieron Pollard. This decision took everyone by surprise, since Mumbai Indians had as many as five foreigners on the bench – Daniel Sams, Tim David, Tymal Mills, Fabian Allen and Riley Meredith. Previously, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals have also played with only two foreigners, but due to unavoidable circumstances.

When Zaheer Khan was asked about why MI went with two overseas players when they had seven overseas players fit and available, he said “We felt this combination gave us the balance we wanted, someone like Jaydev Unadkat needed a go – he was bowling well in the nets. The conditions also suited his style – the wicket was a bit two-paced and it had something for bowlers who hit the seam”

Zaheer shares advice for bowlers
Mumbai Indians succumbed to their fourth straight defeat with the loss against RCB. They could only score 151 runs, and while their bowling was top notch in the first ten overs, Bangalore eventually got in control of the game from there onwards.
Speaking on the suggestions he gives to MI’s bowling contingent, the former Indian pacer said “I always tell bowlers to express themselves freely and stay with the game. It’s very important to have situational awareness and act accordingly. You have to know who is the aggressor in a partnership – if you can gauge that with the captain, you can get on top”
