IPL 2022: Worried BCCI to call for franchise meeting, will discuss PLAN-B for mega-auction, venues, dates & schedule: Follow LIVE Updates

As per a report by Cricbuzz, BCCI are contemplating holding a strategic meeting with the IPL stakeholders to discuss potential plan B options for the IPL 2022 season.

The season was originally expected to kick off on April 2 in Chennai with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) being the defending champions.

The teams were expected to play home and away matches travelling around the country, but those plans have become questionable with the rising Omicron cases in the country.

The entirety of the IPL 2020 was held in the UAE, while the second phase returned to the Gulf Country last year.

A return to the UAE is ruled out by the BCCI as per reports, and the board are considering possible locations in India where a bio-bubble environment could be made and the tournament could be proceeded with.

Franchise officials told Cricbuzz that the meeting will be introductory in nature, with the arrival of new franchises Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

The BCCI and the IPL Governing Council will also be discussing the possibility of conducting the entire tournament in Mumbai and Pune or in Gujarat, with Ahmedabad, Baroda and Rajkot as venues.

“The meeting will be mainly introductory in nature with the BCCI on-boarding the owners of the two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad. They are also exploring the idea of holding the whole tournament just in Mumbai and Pune or in the Gujarat cities of Ahmedabad, Baroda and Rajkot if the Covid/Omicron situation worsens. The owners will be apprised of the alternatives as well as things to look forward to in the mega auction,” said franchise officials to Cricbuzz.
