In a video shared by the team on its social media handles, the former India pacer said, “You can do all the debriefs, you can do all the processes, what is going to matter from here on is how we look at the season. What has happened, has happened. It’s done. You can’t change that.”
“What we are going to need now, to get us out of this hole is spark from just a couple of individuals. Whoever is in, has to carry the team and bring us out of this hole,” he added.
Mumbai Indians are known to be perennial slow starters and they have a history of making a comeback after a poor start in the past. Elaborating on this, Zaheer said, “We have done it in the past., but we have put in a hell of a work. So there is no reason why we can’t make it happen again, provided how we are looking at it.”
“Find inspiration and find that fight. Just focus on the positives and keep believing,” he concluded.
Mumbai Indians started the season against Delhi Capitals and lost the game by four wickets as they allowed their opponents to chase 179 with 10 balls to spare. They were then unable to chase 194 against Rajasthan Royals after letting Jos Buttler to score a terrific century against them. In their latest game, they set 162 as the target for Kolkata Knight Riders and were in the game before Pat Cummins equalled the record for the fastest fifty in the tournament, to help KKR chase the total with four overs left.
They are in a deperate need of a victory and their next outing is against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday. Rohit and his boys will be absolutely eager to avoid a fourth straight defeat. It remains to be seen whether Zaheer’s motivational words bring forth a turnaround of fortunes.
