On a difficult surface, Ruturaj Gaikwad showed his class once again to score his 3rd 50 of IPL 2022 in the clash against the Gujarat Titans. The CSK opener saw partner Devon Conway depart early but held the other end rotating the strike to help his side to a respectable total on a slowish surface.
He stitched a valuable partnership with N Jagadeesan and eventually got to his fifty, before holding out to Matthew Wade at deep mid-wicket of Rashid Khan. While CSK have already been knocked out of the competition, the final few games are pivotal for Gaikwad to stake his claim for a place in the team for the IND vs SA T20 series.

Gaikwad’s international career is yet to take off in the limited opportunities the opener has received and his form has dipped this year in the IPL, after the highs of the Orange Cap in the UAE. The 24-year-old, who was retained by the four-time champions, seems to have turned it around lately with the 50 being the latest in a string of scores showcasing his return to some semblance of form.
With the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli set to be rested for the India vs South Africa series, Gaikwad will hope to make the most of his chances to get an opportunity to don the India blue and make his mark. The 533 on Sunday against Gujarat was a step in the right direction for the Maharashtra-born star, who will look to finish the IPL season on a high.
