Recent times were exceptionally gloomy for DC after their players and support staff were found to have contracted Covid-19. A couple of days ago Mitchell Marsh along with 4 other members of the support staff was found to test positive for Covid-19. Immediately isolation procedures were followed and the players were all restricted to their rooms, preventing any chance of training ahead of their important fixture.

Today, Tim Seifert was also found to have tested positive. The rest of the players gave two back-to-back negative tests, thereby ensuring the game proceeded. With barely a few hours being allotted for practice ahead of the game, Ricky Ponting hurdled his team into a circle to deliver a power pep talk and the results of the pep talk were instantly visible when DC came out to bowl.
“Our preparation has not been perfect but sometimes those things can work really well in your favour. I addressed the group before we trained last night regarding the two options we have,” Ponting told host broadcaster Star Sports before the toss.

“We can drag our backsides around or we can take the positives out of it and realise we are playing in a really big tournament and we are part of a really successful franchise who probably have the best cricket ahead of them going ahead in the tournament so we turn up today with a real well positive attitude,” he added.

“The tournament has been a stop-start so far for us. The players are very aware of the way I want them to play. It is what it is and we have to get on with it. I am pretty confident that we can put a good show tonight.”
Since DC was stationed in Mumbai and with the games against Punjab Kings scheduled to take place in Pune, the game had to be rescheduled to commence in Mumbai, since an isolating team cannot travel from one place to another. Their following game against Rajasthan Royals will also take place in Mumbai.
