“I am in the auction at the minute. At the minute I’ll be in it. If I look ahead to the World Cup and I can learn something in the IPL, if I can put myself in pressure situations and try and get better for the end of the year, that’ll be good,” Mark Wood was quoted by Mirror.

Mark Wood had pulled out of IPL auction in 2021 after spending a year with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018. This time, Wood said that the decision to reconsider the move is due to bio-bubble fatigue.

“It’s just whether the time away from home, the bubbles…I’ve done Australia without my son which has been quite hard. Especially around Christmas. So I’ll have to see how the family situation is,” he stated about his final call.

The development comes as the deadline for IPL 2022 auction entry paperwork has been extended for a week. Several England and Australia players working out whether or not to put their names down amid bio-bubble restrictions. However, the BCCI seemed confident that there won’t be any pullouts.

“We haven’t heard anything from ECB about pullout from IPL. In fact, many English players who previously skipped IPL have shown interest. As for Australians, they have been our biggest partner and hopefully all the players will be available for the entire tournament,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.

With 10 teams and a bigger auction, BCCI expects no less than 1000 names. But the Indian board will narrow down the list of players and release around 250 of them for the auction pool. The final list will be out after the two new franchises Ahmedabad and Lucknow announce their three picks by January 22.

“We approached our partner boards a month back to send the list of players. We expect them to send the list of players by January 17. This time, we expect over 1000 players but only 250 of them will be in the auction. The names will be released by the end of January. We have seen an increase in the interest with the growing brand value of IPL,” a board official told InsideSport.
