On being asked about Kohli not being the captain anymore, Iyer used a famous quote from another iconic Indian skipper in Sourav Ganguly. “I remember Dada (Sourav Ganguly) quoting once ‘to be a leader you don’t necessarily have to be holding a position’. A leader is someone who irrespective of his position is able to create an environment where everyone is at parity. Virat bhai has got huge huge experience,” Iyer told Times of India.

“He (Kohli) is a leader. He knows how to carry the team. We have seen on the TV screens how these two – Rohit and Virat – how they guide youngsters, how they discuss and plan things and take India to wins. It is really amazing to have both players in the dressing room,” he further added.

Iyer determined to win IPL 2022
Venkatesh Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders came agonizingly close to lifting the shimmering IPL title last season, but faltered at the very last year. This time around, under the new leadership of Shreyas Iyer, ‘Venky’ is determined to get his hands on the trophy.
“I want KKR to lift the winning trophy this time. Shreyas and I always talk in the dressing room and during practice sessions “yaar…iss baar IPL jeetna hai.” We always give inputs to each other. When a lot of people think together then the synergy is something amazing,” he said.
