Both Faf du Plessis and Jofra Archer had been two key players for CSK and RR. Unfortunately, RR and CSK could not retain the duo. IPL 2022: Faf will turn out for RCB

1: Faf du Plessis

It is hard to imagine Faf du Plessis playing for some other franchise apart from CSK. In the 2022 season of IPL, the veteran player will turn out for RCB. After an intense bidding war with CSK, RCB managed to get hold of the former South African captain. In the 2021 IPL season, the right-hand batter scored 633 runs in 16 matches and helped CSK win its fourth title.

He was also instrumental in CSK winning the 2018 edition of IPL. CSK will miss the gun batter. They have managed to fill the void though by signing Devon Conway.

IPL 2022: Jofra Archer will play for Mumbai Indians

2: Jofra Archer

Nobody understood the logic behind Mumbai Indians being quiet at the start of day two of the mega auctions. Later, when it fought with RR to get Jofra Archer it all made sense. The England pacer won’t play IPL 2022, but MI management were happy to shell out money keeping the long-term goal in mind. RR CEO accepted that it was hard losing Archer.

KL Rahul will lead Lucknow Super Giants

4: KL Rahul

KL Rahul was perhaps the biggest loss. The Indian opener has been in tremendous form in the IPL, leading the scoring chart in 2020 and finishing second in 2021. Rahul consistently scored 500 plus runs for three seasons and carried the batting ably on his shoulders. PBKS coach Anil Kumble told that they wanted to retain KL Rahul, but the latter wanted to go into auctions. This season he will turn out for LSG and will also lead the team.

IPL 2022: Rabada will play for PBKS

5: Kagiso Rabada

DC could not buy back their premier bowler Kagiso Rabada during the mega auctions. The South African pacer has been the leader of the Capitals attack for the past three years. He has picked 76 wickets in 50 IPL matches for DC. He also won the purple cap in the team’s first-ever finals in the 2020 IPL season. The right-arm pacer will turn out for PBKS in this year’s IPL. The Capitals will surely miss the experienced bowler.

Some other players like Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Shikhar Dhawan, and Yuzvendra Chahal were also not retained by the respective teams. Iyer was the Capitals captain for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He led from the front by playing the anchor role to perfection. He scored 2375 runs in 87 matches for the Capitals. DC bid for him during the auctions, but eventually lost the race to KKR.

CSK also lost on all-rounder Shardul Thakur. He was their leading wicket-taker in the 2021 IPL season and contributed well with the bat also. Thakur was CSK’s middle overs enforcer in the IPL. He will now turn out for DC in this season’s IPL.

On the other hand, Chahal was the lead bowler for RCB for over six years. He has taken over 100 wickets for the team and was Kohli’s go-to-bowler in the middle overs.
