Chasing a total of 223, Delhi Capitals openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner once again got the team off to a flying start, however Warner got out in the fifth over and Sarfaraz Khan too quickly followed back to the pavilion. The team was under pressure after two wickets and Pant came out to bat when the scores were 48/2 in the sixth over.
Pant got off the mark immediately by hitting a boundary towards mid-wicket fence in just his second ball. Pant soon took on the responsibility of keeping the required run rate under check as he continued playing big shots.
As soon as Shaw got out, the responsibility was on the shoulders of Pant and he continued the assault by smashing 22 runs in the 11th over bowled by Riyan Parag, with two sixes and a boundary. Just when he looked set for a big innings, he departed after hitting one high into the night sky that was judged well by Devdutt Padikkal as he took a terrific catch. Pant departed for 44 runs off 36 deliveries.

- This was his highest score this season and despite Delhi Capitals lost the game, the skipper played a good knock to show his detractors that he is a man who is in form.
- In six innings before this match, he scored 144 runs with a high score of 43.

Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals too are struggling at the moment with just 3 wins in 4 games and are tottering at the bottom-half of the table. Some former cricketers had opined that the burden of captaincy had contributed to Pant’s loss of form with the bat.
‘What I would like to see Delhi is Rishabh Pant coming and playing his natural game forgetting that he is the captain of the side, let him go out and play his natural game,’ said Ravi Shastri, while speaking to Star Sports.
Despite a defeat, Pant’s innings on Friday is a big positive to Delhi Capitals and Pant will look to continue the same form in the upcoming matches.
