As per the new rules of player retention in which not more than 4 players are allowed to be retained, CSK kept Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad to themselves. Ravindra Jadeja currently holds the highest salary cap of 16 cr, followed by MS Dhoni of 12Cr. Moeen Ali will be paid a salary of 8 Cr while newcomer rising talent Ruturaj Gaikwad will earn 6 Cr in IPL 2022.

1. Replacement of MS Dhoni
Reports suggest that this could be MS Dhoni’s last year in IPL which will see him leading the team in yellow. Replacing a player like MS Dhoni is not a matter of joke, however with the former Indian skipper about to retire, CSK needs a player who would be able to handle the burden of the 4-time IPL champions. 2. Finding an able Wicketkeeper
Replacing MS Dhoni comes with its different baggages. Apart from being one of the best captains of the game, MS Dhoni was one of the best finishers of the 20-20 format of the game along with being an exceptional wicketkeeper. Therefore, with Dhoni gone from the next season, CSK will have to find a good keeper and get him accustomed to the squad and the dynamics of the team for at least a season beforehand. Sam Billings who has previously played for Chennai Super Kings can be bought as a perfect wicketkeeping batter. Lastly, CSK will also need a young explosive middle-order batter who can finish innings on a high note as Dhoni has done over the years.

3. Investing in the Youth
Chennai Super Kings have always been a team that has played the gamble of investing in youngsters and bringing the best out of them. However, they have often continued their team with aged players like Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, Suresh Raina, and Faf du Plessis. Despite their good performances, CSK will need to focus more on the young players rather than spending big amounts on these aged players. The new bunch of rising players of the Indian contingent are good players and could go on to become world-beaters.
