“I need to review this and have a chat with the rest of the coaches as well and make some plans,” Jayawardene said after the loss against CSK.
“Batting has been a concern for us, especially on good wickets where we have batted under par. This is a senior group who understand the conditions and have performed in the past. We need to keep pushing and if we need to make those changes, we will do that,” Jayawardene added.

Players like Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma have massively underperformed while the likes of Tim David haven’t found a place. Daniel Sams after a lacklustre show is also on his way out of Mumbai dressing room. InsideSport takes a look at three players who could be playing their final season with MI.
Kieron Pollard – Arguably the biggest name on the list, Pollard holds a unique distinction to have played for only one team. He is the second longest-serving player at a single franchise after Virat Kohli. Signed in 2010, Pollard has played 186 IPL matches and has been a top performer for his side, winning five IPL titles and two Champions League titles.
Nevertheless, he has endured a tough time this season with just 115 runs in eight matches and three wickets. The Caribbean player remains a big flop of the season and could be axed from the team ahead of next season as his best years are well behind him.

Tim David – It never rains but it pours for Tim David, as he came in for a mammoth fee of Rs. 8.25 crore after impressing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Big Bash League. However, with off-field issues and lack of game time, David could be packing his bags early as he has not featured in Mahela Jayawardene’s plans.
The MI management even went with two foreign players but didn’t show faith in David. In just two games, he has contributed 13 runs and was last seen in the MI kit on April 2 against Rajasthan Royals.

Daniel Sams – Daniel Sams was supposed to be the next big thing for MI. The Australian came with big reputation but hasn’t got going. With Jofra Archer making his IPL return in IPL 2023, Sams will be out of favour with Tymal Mills likely to be preferred over him.
It could be said that Pat Cummins ended his MI career as he smashed a whopping 35 runs in a single over from Sams. He did make a good comeback of sorts by scalping four wickets against CSK, but will surely have his position under the scanner for next season.
