IPL 2021: Five days into the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the uncapped players have already started taking the centre stage. Captains of the eight franchises have relied more on these uncapped played than on the costly experienced names. With the first round of games complete, InsideSport brings you five uncapped players who made headlines and notably there is only one batsman in the mix.

IPL 2021: Chetan Sakariya (Rajasthan Royals)

Saurashtra’s Chetan Sakariya made his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals this year. And in his first match against Punjab Kings, skipper Sanju Samson entrusted him with the first and final over. He eclipsed all the big names at the Wankhede Stadium with a standout bowling performance, returning 3/31 and taking two wickets for five runs in the last over.

IPL 2021: Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

After RCB shared a picture of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Harshal Patel in the same car, a joke which started doing the rounds was “You take three wickets and get a place in Virat’s car”. Well, it certainly is true at least in Patel’s regard. The Gujarat-born had a dream start to his IPL season after he took three wickets in the opening game. Furthermore, it was his composure and variations which were lauded. In the end, a warm hug from ABD was the icing on the cake.

IPL 2021: Avesh Khan (Delhi Capitals):

“Mahi bhai’s wicket was my dream wicket”, Avesh Khan said after his inspiring performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His two wickets which included sending MS Dhoni back for a golden duck proved crucial in Delhi Capitals (DC) win.

IPL 2021: Ashdeep Singh (Punjab Kings)

Punjab Kings had spent Rs 22 crore to acquire Australian duo Jhye Richardson (Rs 14 crore) and Riley Meredith (Rs 8 crore) at the auctions. But in a pressure situation in the opening game against Rajasthan Royals (RR), skipper KL Rahul turned to young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. And he did not disappoint. The 22-year-old chipped 3/35 which also included the all crucial wicket of Samson to seal the win.

IPL 2021: Deepak Hooda (Punjab Kings)
If Arshdeep was Punjab’s man with the ball, it was Deepak Hooda’s blitzkrieg with the bat that took PBKS to a mammoth total of 221. Hooda scored an impressive 64 off 28 balls at a strike rate of 228.57 which included 28 six 6s.
