IPL 2021, Virat Kohli Charity Covid-19: Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma’s fundraiser has crossed the Rs 5 crore mark and now just Rs 1.78 crore short from achieving their target. The target was Rs 7 crore, towards which the celebrity couple had contributed Rs 2 crore themselves. They have now received a total donation of Rs 5.22 crore.
On Tuesday, Kohli took to Instagram to share an update about the fundraiser, conducted in collaboration with Ketto. He shared an Instagram story about the donation of Rs 5 crore. Shyam Steel, meanwhile, also donated Rs 10 lakh to the cause.
The fundraiser’s goal, as per the description on the Ketto page, is to ensure ‘deployment of oxygen solutions, including concentrators and oxygen plants to hospitals across India, and also look at bolstering medical manpower, home care and help scale India’s vaccination efforts’ as the country battles a second wave of the pandemic.
In their joint video post on Friday, the powercouple urged the fans to step forward to help others who are in suffering. Anushka wrote, “As our country battles the second wave of Covid-19, and our healthcare systems are facing extreme challenges, it breaks my heart to see our people suffering. So, Virat and I have initiated a campaign #InThisTogether, with Ketto, to raise funds for Covid-19 relief.”
The actor had also said in an Instagram post that she didn’t celebrate her birthday this year, but thanked fans for their wishes. Last year, Anushka and Virat had contributed money towards the PM-Cares relief fund and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (Maharashtra) as well.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli received his first dose of Covishield ahead of the ICC World Test Championship.
Kohli will be travelling to England for the inaugural WTC final against New Zealand in Southampton starting from Friday. It will be followed by a five Test series against England from August 4.
