IPL 2021: Umpire Nitin Menon reveals the reason behind leaving IPL mid-way- Indian umpire Nitin Menon, who recently decided to opt-out of the ongoing IPL 2021, has finally revealed the reason behind his decision. Menon decided to pull out of the cash-rich league in order to take care of his family amid a surge in COVID-18 cases in India.
“I am in the hospital and taking care of my family members. I am on break. Have to see my family,” Menon said.
Menon wife is suffering from COVID-19.
Menon, who is one of the best umpires in India right now, was appreciated by fans in India for his correct decision during the India vs England series last month.
In June 2020, he was promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, replacing Nigel Llong. His father Narendra Menon was also an umpire. In February 2020, the ICC named him as one of the umpires to officiate in matches during the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Menon was praised by the cricket fraternity for his umpiring during England’s tour of India in 2021.
Earlier this week, Delhi Capitals star bowler R Ashwin decided to take a break from IPL 2021 amid the drastic rise in the COVID-19 case in the country.
Taking to Twitter, Ashwin said, “I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals
