IPL 2021: Superman AB De Villiers scores 27 balls 48 as RCB shocks defending champions Mumbai Indians- An Amazing batting display by RCB’s AB de Villiers has helped RCB register a victory against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2021 opener. Also known as Mr. 360, the South African batsman produced match-winning innings. De Villiers smashed 48 runs off just 27 balls that included 2 sixes and 4 boundaries. His innings ensured RCB reach close to the target in the run chase. He finally got rut in the final over to Krunal Pandya’/ Ishan Kishan. In the end, RCB won the nail-biting match in the final over by 2 wickets.
“Was an incredible game of cricket. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, wasn’t an easy pitch to play on and it’s one of those wickets that gets harder as the game goes on and we knew if we could take it to the end we could take a chance. It was a good throw (about his run-out) and Krunal was spot-on,” AB De Villiers said post-match.
“Absolute pleasure playing alongside him. I love playing with players like that and he just wants to win cricket games. And also there’s Dan Christian. It’s a nice combination to have. There’s a reason why they’ve won the trophy five times but that was the challenge for us tonight. We did well and we won the first game against them last year as well,” AB De Villiers said post-match,” he added.
Invited to bat first, MI scored 159/9 in their stipulated 20 overs. Chris Lynn smashed 49 runs off just 35 balls while SuryaKumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan contributed 31 and 28 runs respectively. Harshal Patel took a 5-wicket haul in the IPL 2021 opener.

In reply, De Villiers played a scintillating knock to take the game away from the opposition. Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell also scored 33 and 29 respectively. The Royal Challengers Bangalore batsmen kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Towards the end, RCB won the match by 2 wickets in a thrilling final over. Jasprit Bumrah and debutant Marco Jansen picked two wickets each.
