IPL 2021: Jofra Archer undergoes successful surgery on troubling elbow, to begin intensive rehabilitation – Rajasthan Royals and England pacer Jofra Archer underwent successful surgery on the right elbow on Friday that has been troubling the star for quite some time now. He will now begin an intensive rehabilitation period under England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Sussex, aiming to be fit for the ICC T20 World Cup in October. It remains to be seen if he returns to IPL 2021 when it resumes in mid-September.

“England and Sussex seam bowler Jofra Archer had surgery to address his long-standing elbow issues on Friday. Archer will now commence an intensive rehabilitation period working with the ECB and Sussex medical teams. His progress will be reviewed by his Consultant in approximately four weeks at which point further guidance will be provided as to when he can return to bowling. A further update will be given at the time,” the ECB said in a statement.

IPL 2021: The England fast bowler has a history of elbow injuries that needs constant care and quarterly injections. It forced him to miss two Tests against India and the currently suspended IPL 2021 as Rajasthan Royals missed his service greatly. He had also missed games in South Africa at the start of 2020.

Jofra Archer has also been ruled out of the two-match Test series against New Zealand because of the problem and is not expected to be picked for the five-match Test series against India at home, beginning August 4.

IPL 2021: While eying a Test comeback for England, Archer featured in the county match for Sussex against Kent earlier this month. But after feeling discomfort in the elbow, he opted out of bowling in the second innings. He was seen clutching his right elbow during the match. The ECB and Sussex then decided to go ahead with the surgery to find a solution to the problem.

With ICC T20 World Cup beginning October 18, Jofra Archer may make himself available for the Rajasthan Royals to begin preparation for the marquee event. However, considering his injury, the ECB may not give him permission to play in the IPL and will take him for the Bangladesh tour in September instead.
