IPL 2021 Playoffs Updates: Check how Mumbai Indians can still qualify for playoffs even after registering record 6th defeat this IPL

1. If Mumbai Indians win 4 out of 4

In an ideal scenario, Mumbai Indians will hope to win all four of their reaming games to give them the best chance of making the IPL 2021 playoffs. Should they bag four wins in their remaining games, their total goes up to 16, which should ideally give them the fourth and final slot. MI have games left against the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. While four in four seems like a far cry, Mumbai does have the ability and the quality in their roster to do so.

2. If Mumbai Indians win 3 out of four

Mumbai can still qualify if they get three wins of their last four games. However, at 14 points, Rohit Sharma’s side will have to depend on other results to seal the deal, with the Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of them in the race. MI also have the worst net run rate among the five teams battling for the IPL 2021 playoffs, meaning a repeat of the 2014 season is on the cards when Mumbai faced off against Royals at the Wankhede and needed a last-ball six to qualify.

Any lesser than 14 points will result in Mumbai’s exit from the tournament, marking the first time since 2018 that the team failed to reach the playoffs. The two-time defending champions have struggled this season but will be hoping to shrug aside all those aside and march on towards a victorious part. While things look bleak at the moment, one can never count Mumbaai Indians put who have time and again shown their ability to arrest their slide and bounce back.

Chennai Super Kings – Almost through to Playoffs: After a disastrous outing in IPL 2020, CSK is becoming the team to beat in IPL 2021. MS Dhoni led team registered their 8th victory of the tournament & is now on top of the points table with 16 points.

Under no circumstances CSK now can miss the playoff spot. This is a record 11th time that CSK has entered the semifinals or IPL Playoffs.

Delhi Capitals (DC) – Almost Through to IPL Playoffs : As the IPL 2021 Points Table suggest, Rishabh Pant led Delhi Capitals is at No. 2 spot behind CSK with equal points but inferior net run rate. Having won 8 of the 10 games, Delhi team is comfortably placed and has almost qualified for Playoffs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – Win 2 out of 4 remaining games: Virat Kohli’s RCB finally stopped the rut as they defeated Mumbai Indians by 54 runs in a very crunch match for both the teams.

Kohli’s team now has 12 points from 10 matches with 6 victories and is comfortablly placed at No. 3 in IPL Points Table. Victory in 2 of the 4 remaining matches will be enough for Kohli’s team to enter IPL Playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders – 3 victories of 4 matches: Eoin Morgan’s side is still in contention in the IPL Playoff Race despite losing to CSK. Their taks though has become more challenging.

KKR has now lost their 6th match in IPL. Kolkata do have 4 victories in 10 matches. They are at the 4th position currently but 3 other teams are also at 8 points like KKR.

In remaining matches, KKR have to lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR) – and they need to win minimum 3 to qualify for IPL Playoffs.

IPL 2021 Playoffs Race: Check what MI, CSK, DC, RCB, RR, KKR, SRH, PBKS need to qualify for IPL 2021 Playoffs

Punjab Kings – 3 Victories of 4 Remaining Matches: The perrenial under-achievers of IPL, Punjab Kings is at No. 5 position in the IPL Points table. They have 8 points from 10 matches & need to improve their NRR & also win 3 games out of 4 to qualify for IPL Playoffs.

In the remaining matches, PBKS will face: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Mumbai Indians (MI).

Rajasthan Royals – Minimum 3 Wins in 5 Matches: After easy defeat to Delhi Capitals on Saturday things have become complex for Sanju Samson’s team. They will now have to win minimum 3 matches out of 5 to qualify for playoffs.

They have matches lined up against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR),  and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Their match vs Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday will be extremely crucial to SRH’s hopes. They can jump to No. 4 position by winning the match vs SRH.

Mumbai Indians – Win 4 out of 4 Games: The playoff race for defending champion Mumbai Indians is getting shaky with passing of each and every match.

They have lost all 3 matches in Phase 2 of IPL. MI Players are looking very rusty, out of form and playoff hopes are getting dented with every passing match.

MI has now falled to 7th position in IPL Points Table. The Rohit Sharma-led side, who has won the IPL title record 5 times can still qualify for Playoffs but can’t afford any more slip up.

Their NRR is very poor and that is the reason it will be safer for them to win all 4 games and qualify for playoffs in style. Otherwise even 3 victories from 4 matches can get them a playoff spot.

MI has to face Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the remaining matches.

SunRisers Hyderabad – 5 out of 5 matches SRH should Win: SRH is the bottom placed side in the IPL Points table with only 1 win in 9 games. They are all but out of the playoff contention.

Mathematical calculation says they still can qualify by winning all 5 matches – but for that to happen, 1023 permutations and combinations will have to fall in their favor. So all is already over for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021.
