IPL 2021: – Chennai Super Kings wicket-keeper N Jagadeeshan recently opened up about MS Dhoni’s ‘spark’ comment which was misunderstood by the media in the previous edition of IPL. The statement was made after CSK’s poor run in the first 10 matches with just 3 victories in UAE. He had said that changing the playing XI does not make sense as those waiting for their chances were not ready for the challenge.
“You don’t want to chop and change. Insecurity is something you don’t want to prevail in the dressing room. Also the youngsters, we didn’t see the spark to push the guys,” Dhoni had said post-match after a defeat to Rajasthan Royals.

Jagadeeshan said that the remark was only meant to uplift the game of senior players who were struggling after lack of match practice amid pandemic.
“What Dhoni actually said was completely misunderstood by the press. It was not about the youngsters, Ruturaj Gaikwad and I did well to be honest. What people don’t get is that he’s someone who’s trying to boost the entire team, the seniors as well,” Jagadeesan told Sportskeeda.
“When you have such legends in the team, you can’t pinpoint each of them. There needs to be a way where the seniors are backed up. For them to be backed up, something had to be done. And after his comment, we did well and the team did really well,” he added.
The yellow army went on to win three of their remaining 4 matches but failed to secure a playoff berth. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the find out of the tournament with three fifties on a trot in the remaining matches.
In IPL 2021 Phase 1, CSK turned things around with 5 wins in 7 matches.
