IPL 2021: MS Dhoni not to play Syed Mushtaq Ali T20, will it cost Chennai Super Kings another IPL season?

IPL 2021 : MS Dhoni not to play Syed Mushtaq Ali T20, will it cost Chennai Super Kings another IPL season? : As per reports, former India captain MS Dhoni will not be playing in the forthcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021, which is scheduled to begin from 10th January. This means like IPL 2020 – Dhoni will enter IPL 2021 as well without any match practice. Will this prove costly for the team Chennai Super Kings in the 14th edition of the league ?
Notably, Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket raised many questions over his availability in IPL from next season. However, with his ‘definitely not’ in CSK’s last league match in IPL 2020, the 39-year-old ended all speculations around his future confirming that he will play for the men in yellow in the 14th edition of the IPL as well.
However, not Dhoni’s retirement, but his dismal form with the bat in IPL 13 was the top concern for CSK, who failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time and finished seventh in the IPL 2020 points table.
It ended up being Dhoni’s worst season with the bat for CSK and the worst overall for his team as well. He scored just 200 runs across 12 innings, the lowest run tally he has ever raked up in an IPL season and his highest score was an unbeaten 47. The lack of a finisher was just one of many things plaguing Chennai then as they became the first team to fall out of contention for the playoffs.
Lack of practice behind Dhoni’s horrible show in IPL 2020
Many blamed the COVID-19 enforced lockdown, as well as an extended break from international cricket for Dhoni’s struggle to impose himself in the IPL 2020 for CSK in UAE, while Dhoni himself admitted that the extended two-week quarantine of Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2020 hampered his preparations as he did not get enough time for batting practice.
Is Dhoni repeating the same mistake again and putting CSK in danger?
MS Dhoni is once again putting CSK’s IPL campaign in 2021 in jeopardy by deciding not to play in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which would have only helped the wicketkeeper-batsman to find his lost touch and prepare for the IPL 2021, which is likely to begin from April 2nd week.
It is worth mentioning that, with Dhoni not playing in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he will once again be out of action for a long time before he dons the yellow jersey once again for the Super Kings and it might prove to be a big blunder for the cricketer who is 39 years old and definitely needs proper practice before entering IPL 2021.
Suresh Raina to play in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021
Meanwhile, unlike Dhoni, his former CSK teammate Suresh Raina has decided to come out of the retirement and play Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. Raina, who missed IPL 2020 due to personal reasons, announced on social media last week that he will be playing representing Uttar Pradesh in the tournament.
Notably, Raina hasn’t played competitive cricket for the past one year but he has been training hard in the gym and keeping himself fit for the upcoming domestic season in India.
