IPL 2021 Most Impressive Team: Sunil Gavaskar says, 'MS Dhoni's CSK looked like a champion team'

IPL 2021 Most Impressive Team: India’s batting legend Sunil Gavaskar isn’t easily impressed with a team’s performance. But in the suspended IPL 2021, a team that impressed him the most with “renewed energy” was MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

IPL 2021 Most Impressive Team – Despite a losing start, CSK hit top gear winning five matches on the trot to take the 2nd spot on the Points Table before the tournament was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CSK’s turnaround from a disappointing 7th place finish was astonishing especially after retaining the core of the team.

“All the other teams were in top form with last year’s disappointing team, Chennai Super Kings, looking like the champion it usually had been all these years. There was a renewed energy about the team this time, though there were no major changes to its squad,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

IPL 2021 Most Impressive Team: Sunil Gavaskar reveals reason why CSK looked like a champion team?

IPL 2021 Most Impressive Team – While captain MS Dhoni failed to fire and had a poor campaign with the bat, his teammates supported him well on the pitch. Gavaskar gave 5 reasons to explain – why CSK looked like champion team this IPL?

  • Faf du Plessis cracking form, scored four half-centuries on the trot.
  • His opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad came back to form after the team management trusted the young batsman.
  • With the ball, Deepak Chahar was impressive as he managed to take advantage of the conditions.
  • Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came back from a thumb injury and was at his impressive best — with the bat, with the ball and also in fielding.
  • However, Sunil Gavaskar said promoting Moeen Ali was the masterstroke that won them matches. Moeen Ali starred in his new franchise, scoring 206 runs in six innings and scored at a strike rate of 157.25. His explosive power-hitting dismantled bowling attack in middle overs, helping Chennai Super Kings post competitive totals.

“The promotion of Moeen Ali to the top of the order at No. 3 turned out to be a masterstroke as the left-handed batsman produced some blistering innings. The seasoned Faf du Plessis was in cracking form, too, and, along with the promising Ruturaj Gaekwad, gave the team some top starts,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column.

The former India captain also lauded Sam Curran’s all-round effort. “Sam Curran continues to impress and improve with every game and bids fair to be considered a proper all-rounder now. It’s the final overs’ bowling that the side needs to strengthen as was evident in the match against Mumbai when, despite scoring 218, it lost the game off the last ball,” Gavaskar wrote.
