IPL 2021 – KKR’s Shakib Al Hasan: After Shakib Al Hasan decided to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) instead of series against Sri Lanka, country over IPL debate is raging big time in Bangladesh cricket circles. The centre of debate, Bangladesh & Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all rounder Shakib for the first time has come forward to clarify his stand on the debate.

According to Shakib, it is not lure of money that he decided to play in IPL but it is for the sake of getting himself prepared for the T20 World Cup that he decided to opt for IPL 2021. Shakib informed that he did not mention anywhere in his letter that he doesn’t want to play Tests. Shakib claimed that he had stated, “I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself for the T20 World Cup.”, Shakib told one of the local news platform in Bangladesh.

Shakib also said his stand has been misinterpreted by some sections of the national board. According to Shakib, BCB Cricket operations chairman Akram Khan misled the media regarding the whole affair.

“Continuously people are talking about this Test (skipping the series against Sri Lanka). The people who are saying that I will no longer play the Test or don’t want to play the Test haven’t read my letter properly and that is it,” Shakib was quoted as saying in a live show on Cricfrenzy platform on Saturday.

“I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram Bhai (BCB cricket operation chairman) has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests,” he said.

The 33-year-old further spoke that he was ready to skip any format to make sure he is available to play in the IPL as part of the ICC T20 World Cup preparation.

“During the IPL season, I wanted time so that I can prepare myself better [for T20 World Cup]. The ground where I will play IPL now will be the ground where I will play the World Cup match after four months. The players with whom I will play the IPL will be the players against whom I will play in the World Cup.”

“I will get more advantages than anyone else from Bangladesh, and it will also help me to share my experiences with the team that I will gain by playing in the IPL,” said the Bangladesh allrounder.
