IPL 2021: Even before the new Indian Premier League (IPL) season could start, franchises find themselves in a tricky situation. While some will be looking for replacements for their injured player, others will have to solve the issue of who should be their leader for IPL 2021. The problems are expected to be solved in the coming days. Here are three big decisions teams will make this week.
IPL 2021: Who will be Delhi Capitals captain?
Delhi Capitals were disappointed after their captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. The Mumbai-batsman dislocated his shoulder during the first ODI against England and will undergo surgery on April 9. The big question for DC now is who will be their captain for IPL 2021. Delhi is one team who have many leaders in their squad. Steve Smith has successfully captain the Australian team, while there is no doubt of Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, especially after his heroics in Down Under. Ravichandran Ashwin too has captain experience in his resume. The veteran spinner has captained Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings. Then there is Rishabh Pant. The new star of India was Iyer’s deputy last year and is likely to be handed the captain’s hat.
IPL 2021: CSK vice captaincy issue
CSK have started their training camp in Mumbai. The three-time champions have been looking good and ready for the upcoming season. However, there is just one problem. The MS Dhoni-led side are still without a vice-captain. Suresh Raina who has been Dhoni’s deputy since 2018, is back with the squad after missing out on last year’s IPL due to personal reason. However, the emergence of Ravindra Jadeja has spiced up the competition. Questions have been raised over who will be CSK’s vice-captain in IPL 2021.
According to CSK management, they still are undecided on this. CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanath told Cricbuzz that a call will be made closer to the tournament and that Raina was not yet named for the position. “We’ll name the vice-captain closer to the tournament,” Viswanathan said.
IPL 2021: RR to decide should replacement for Jofra Archer called?
Rajasthan were hit hard after their lead fast bowler Jofra Archer was ruled out of IPL 2021. The England pacer had returned home for treatment to his elbow and will now undergo surgery. RR are now in a fix whether they should look for a replacement for their star bowler. It will be hard for Rajasthan to find an impactful pacer like Archer. The 25-year-old made his debut in 2018. In three seasons combined, he has played 35 matches for the inaugural champions and has chipped 46 wickets.
