IPL 2021: IPL is ‘like a marathon, MS Dhoni and Co ready for it’, says CSK bowling coach Balaji- In weekly episode No.3 of Anbuden Diaries, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Lakshmipathi Balaji got candid in a video shared by the IPL franchise. Balaji stressed on the importance of staying healthy and fit throughout the season. He said that IPL is like a marathon event and MS Dhoni’s CSK is ready for it. 

“I think it’s a kind of marathon event when it comes to IPL. It’s a 6-8 weeks tournament so you need to make sure your body last long till the last week of the season,” Balaji said.

“Make sure you do not run that 100 metre or 400-metre dash, just make sure you pace your body conditions towards the last week of the tournament. That is very important,” he added.

“I’m sure the players will be taking good care of their body and preparation. We are looking forward to it.”

The former CSK player added that there is no question over the player’s abilities in IPL 2021.

“They are all proven players. There’s no question about their credentials. CSK brand has been ‘brand of cricket’ as we all know and, of course, they will be looking forward to give their 100%. So, we are pretty much happy and looking forward to spend quality time with them,” Balaji said.

He added that the time spent in Chennai ahead of moving their base to Mumbai was crucial. “The period that we spent in Chennai was very important. That 15 days will help us [get] into match mode.”

CSK will play 5 fixtures in Mumbai-leg matches.

Speaking about the Mumbai track, Balaji said, “Mumbai and West Zone always have a better bond that’s why we see quality batting track.”

CSK will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 10.
