IPL 2021: From Josh Hazlewood to Mitchell Marsh, 5 players who have pulled out of IPL 2021- The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the blockbusters in world cricket. Every cricketer around the world wants to be a part of it. It is one such league that attracts thousands of registration. This year at least 1,293, including 363 overseas cricketers had applied for the IPL auction out of which only 292 were shortlisted. This comes when a majority of players were retained by their respective IPL franchises. But, now with just a week left for the IPL 2021 kick-off, several key overseas players have pulled out of IPL 2021. As many as five players have pulled out of the IPL 2021 till date. They are Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Phillipe, Mark Wood and Dale Steyn. The development comes as players have been staying in ‘bubbles; for so long amid pandemic and that may have taken a toll on their physical, mental well-being. Besides this, DC captain Shreyas Iyer and Jofra Archer have been also ruled out due to injuries.

IPL 2021: 5 players who pulled out of the tournament

Josh Hazlewood (Chennai Super Kings)

Chennai Super Kings pacer Josh Hazlewood is the latest from the list of players who have pulled out of IPL 2021. The bowler was part of different bio-bubbles from August 2020 to January this year. With big international season ahead, the cricketer wants to keep himself ‘mentally and physically ready’

Mitchell Marsh (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

The Australian allrounder Mitchell Marsh would have had to undergo 7-day quarantine and 50 days in the bio-secure bubble, which the 29-year-old found too restrictive. Marsh was retained by SRH for Rs 2 crore. This is not the first time he will miss playing in the cash-rich league. Last year, he had to leave the T20 competition after he twisted his ankle in SRH’s opening match against RCB.

Josh Phillipe (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Another Australian player, wicket-keeper batsman Josh Phillipe had pulled out of IPL earlier this month. The development came even as he was in fine form in recently concluded BBL after an impressive IPL debut. In IPL 2020, Phillipe had scored 78 runs in 5 matches. The reason behind Phillipe’s absence is still unknown.

Dale Steyn (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The former RCB bowler Dale Steyn decided to give IPL 2021 a miss as he seeks more time away from the sport. “I’m also not planning on playing for another team, just taking some time off during that period. Thank you to RCB for understanding,” he had said. The cricketer has been a vital part of the IPL since the inception of the tournament in 2008.

Mark Wood

The former Chennai Super Kings and England pacer Mark Wood pulled out of IPL 2021 at the last minute ahead of auctions. He announced his decision to all the 8 franchises in a briefing on February 18. The cricketer prioritized spending time with family to be ready for England ahead of the international season. His base price was Rs 2 crore.
