IPL 2021 Phase 2: Five newcomers who are set to become big-hit in IPL starting on Sunday in UAE ft Evin Lewis, Wanindu Hasaranga
The IPL 2021 is less than 48 hours away from resuming as teams hit their final laps of preparation for the final leg of the tournament. The league resumes with CSK taking on the Mumbai Indians on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. The resumption in the UAE has seen many players opt-out, and here’s a look at five replacements that could set the stage alight in IPL 2021.
IPL 2021: Five newcomers who are set to become big-hit in IPL starting on Sunday in UAE
1. Evin Lewis
The West Indian opener arrives in UAE on the back of a stellar season in the CPL 2021, where he finished as the top run-getter to help St Kitts and Nevis to their maiden title. Evin Lewis will replace Joss Buttler at the top of the order and the Rajasthan Royals will be hoping that he can replicate some of his CPL form in IPL 2021 Phase. Lewis has previously plied his trade with the Mumbai Indians, scoring 430 runs in 16 games, at a strike rate of 131.09
2. Wanindu Hasaranga
The all-rounder showcased his skills during Sri Lanka’s home season, where they faced off against India and South Africa. Brought in as a replacement for Adam Zampa, the Sri Lankan leggie gives much-needed support to Yuzvendra Chahal, especially in the absence of Washington Sundar, who’s ruled out due to injury. Coupled with his ability to bat and tonk the ball in the death, he becomes a valuable addition to the RCB outfit as they make a playoffs push.
3. Tabraiz Shamsi
The World’s No. 1 T20 bowler, Tabraiz Shamsi returns to the IPL after redeemed himself in all forms of cricket over the years. The left-arm chinaman bowler has developed into one of the most consistent shorter format bowlers, and his ability to pick wickets at regular intervals will certainly be Rajasthan Royals’ main attraction towards signing him. Shamsi is likely to be the leader of the pack with the Royals not boasting a lot of spin bowling reserves, with Rahul Tewatia and Mayank Markande being the other options.
4. Sherfane Rutherford
Another CPL 2021 star who earned himself an IPL contract, Rutherford was again instrumental in helping the Patriots lift their title. The left-handed hard-hitter played some crucial innings to rescue his team from precarious positions and will need to continue to do so with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 2016 champions have struggled for runs from their middle order and Rutherford’ addition is an indication from the team management to get things right in IPL 2021 Phase 2.
5. Adil Rashid
England’s premier leg-spinner Adil Rashid will be making his Ipl debut in Phase 2, as he turns out for the Punjab Kings. Rashid is yet another skilful bowler with tons of experience playing in a variety of T20 leagues across the globe. The Englishman will like Shamsi, lead the spin pack, with Punjab Kings largely inexperienced in that regard, with Murugan Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi and Harpreet Brar forming the contingent.
