While one might argue that the tracks of the stadiums in India- Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad) Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi) and MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai) where the first phase matches were played are also known to assist spinners. However, a peek into the bowling stats of the first phase of the tournament has seen pacers rising to the occasion and claiming more wickets.

Besides, the intrinsic extra heat of the UAE makes the pitch drier compared to the turfs in the Asian country. Thus, the batsmen might face trouble as the ball wouldn’t come that easily on the pads. The slowed wickets will be cherry for the spinners.

The momentous occasion of crowds returning to the stands will be seen in the second leg of the tournament in UAE.  The buzzing atmosphere will reverberate in the stadiums after 18 months. Amid the COVID scare, the cash-rich league didn’t welcome in-stadium spectators neither in IPL 2020 in UAE nor in the first leg of IPL 2021 in India.

New Players, new skills

While inviting fresh talent to the team is always a plus but not at the cost of experienced/ already defined players in the squad. The second phase of IPL 2021 Phase 2 witnessed a number of pullouts- some due to mental health, others citing personal reasons and the likes. Overall, 15 players withdrew from the tournament, offering a chance for the new faces to showcase their skills in the remaining fixtures. Among the franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) underwent maximum replacements- five, followed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) that saw the swapping of four players.
