IPL 2021 CSK vs MI: CSK’s Hari Nishaanth gets training from Coach Stephen Fleming: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is preparing backup options for the opening spot after Faf du Plessis’s groin injury (suffered during CPL) has come as a setback for the team. While InsideSport had earlier learnt that the South African player will undergo an injury assessment before the Mumbai match tomorrow, the yellow brigade seems to be preparing a youngster for the opening spot.  Hari Nishaanth, who was seen getting special training from coach Stephen Fleming ahead of the CSK vs MI match on September 19, might don the yellow jersey in the opening clash in Dubai.

In a recent post shared by CSK on social media, the Southpaw from Tamil Nadu was seen getting special batting tips from head coach Stephen Fleming. The mentor helped the 25-year-old batsman with his footwork.

Has Nishaanth opened innings in T20 format?

IPL 2021 CSK vs MI: The left-handed player was the opening batsman for Dindigul Dragons during Tamil Nadu Premier League (2021). He emerged as the highest run-scorer of the tournament. He amassed 368 runs in the nine innings and returned with an economy of 40.88.

Thus he can be a strong opener for CSK in the remaining matches in case du Plessis fails to fully recover from his injury.

  • Faf Du Plessis hasn’t had any practice since suffering the groin injury last week.
  • He has missed three CPL matches including the final.
  • A groin injury is treated generally with rest and a week of it isn’t considered enough.
  • After a week of rest, Du Plessis will take the field, if fully fit, on Sunday and depending on injury assessment, a call will be taken.
  • Robin Uthappa has been kept on standby if Du Plessis doesn’t recover on time as a precautionary measure.
