IPL 2021 Phase 2: CSK star Mitchell Santner challenges speed gun, New Zealander gives a crack at fast bowling – Watch – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) resumed their campaign in fine fashion as they etched a comfortable 20-run win over the Mumbai Indians. Riding on the heroics of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dwayne Bravo, CSK reached 156 in their 20 overs after being in a precarious position, to bounce back and claim the points. The win puts CSK atop the IPL 2021 standings, pipping Delhi Capitals with six wins in eight games.

IPL 2021 Phase 2: In a video shared by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mitchell Santner went up against the speed gun, trying his hands at fast bowling. The New Zealand all-rounder tired bowling left-arm pace, sending down three deliveries in the nets. Santner’s first delivery was bowled at a meagre 111 km/h, before increasing it up a notch by bowling 126 and 125 km/h in his next two deliveries. Santner revealed, “I did a bit of seam bowling while growing up and having seen the speed gun, I thought of giving it a shot. The physio advised only three deliveries, so had to give my best shot.”

Mitchell Santner has been on the fringes of the CSK side, and is likely to be so throughout the IPL 2021, with the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Sam Curran ahead in the pecking order.  With Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali combining for spin bowling duties, MS Dhoni has options at his disposal meaning that Santner will likely have to warm the bench for long. He could however get his chance should CSK qualify early, and have games in hadn to rotate their XI.

IPL 2021 Phase 2: MS Dhoni-led CSK are currently atop the IPL 2021 table with six wins in eight games. Two more wins in their final six games should guarantee playoff spots for the three-time champions as CSK look to seal a memorable fourth title in UAE. Should they do it, it will be a memorable comeback of sorts for the Lions, who finished second from bottom last year in the UAE.
