IPL 2021 – Cadbury Dairy Milk Cricket Ad: The confectionery giant Cadbury has played a ‘masterstroke’. Just before the launch of IPL 2021 Phase 2 in UAE on Sunday, company has launched re-created ad of 1990’s with a twist. The campaign is based on the ICONIC 1993 ‘asli sawaad zingagi ka’ ad, in which a male cricketer hits a century, following which a girl runs towards the field, dodges on-ground security, and breaks into a jig with abandon.
This time the roles have been reversed.
More than a quarter of a century later, Cadbury has reimagined its iconic advertisement.
This time, it is a women’s cricket match in progress that is being observed by a man on the sidelines, munching on Dairy Milk. When his girlfriend scores the winning six, he breaks into a celebratory dance and rushes onto the field to hug her.

IPL 2021 – Cadbury Dairy Milk Cricket Ad: In a country where cricket has, for decades, been largely synonymous with men’s cricket, the advertisement marks a shift in popular perception of the game. Social media users were quick to notice Cadbury’s nod to its iconic advertisement and praised the company for turning gender roles on their head.
The new advertisement, dedicated to women ‘hitting it out of the park’, is a call back to a Dairy Milk advertisement released in early 1990s.
