IPL 2021 Suspended– The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is suspended after several players, staff and groundsmen tested positive for COVID-19. Rajeev Shukla, IPL’s Chairman, confirmed the news to ANI that the season has been suspended with immediate effect following SRH’s Wriidhiman Saha and DC’s Amit Mishra testing positive for the novel Coronavirus.
The tournament (IPL 2021) has been in complete disarray and jeopardy after multiple Covid-19 cases were confirmed on Monday morning in Kolkata Knight Riders & Chennai Super Kings. It rattled BCCI officials and now just hours before SRH vs Mumbai Indians match Wriddhiman Saha has tested Covid-19 positive.

With the Australian government issuing strict restrictions, banning any traveller from India including its own citizens, the Aussie cricketers have been left in the lurch. After commentator Michael Slater blasted the Australian government, many other cricketers and support staff inside the bubble will now move to the Maldives where they will wait for the government’s instruction. Australia’s travel restriction is in place till May 15.
IPL 2021 Suspended: Cricket Australia issues statement:
“CA is in direct contact with the BCCI as they work through plans to ensure the safe accommodation and repatriation of Australian players, coaches, match officials and commentators back home to Australia.
“CA and the ACA respect the decision of the Australian Government to pause travel from India until at least May 15 and will not seek exemptions.
“CA and the ACA thank the BCCI for their efforts and cooperation for the safe repatriation of all participants at the IPL.”
IPL 2021 suspended: CSA extends support, to arrange for players’ return
“CSA supports the decision to put the health and safety interests of all involved in the tournament first and foremost and has made contact with all of the relevant franchises to ensure the expedited travel of all South African players and support staff back to our shores.
“Those travelling back to South Africa will undergo home quarantine in line with the current World Health Organization recommendations. CSA and the South African Cricketers Association (SACA) are in contact with all players and are assured of their safety and comfort in their respective locations,” CSA said.
IPL 2021 Suspended: Just IN: Jay Shah: “The BCCI and the IPL GC have unanimously decided to postpone the 2021 season till further notice. We don’t wish to compromise the safety of the players, the people involved, the employees, the groundsmen, the match officials, every single person involved,” Jay Shah, BCCI’s secretary said in a statement.
IPL 2021 in UAE not feasible: As India is ravaged by COVID-19 crisis, it is difficult for the BCCI to create new bubbles and host the remaining matches at a single venue. An alternate is to move the IPL to UAE. However, a BCCI official told Indian Express that it is not feasible.
“It’s not feasible to take the IPL to UAE now, midway into the tournament. We are watching the situation closely. Can’t say at the moment if postponement (of the tournament) is an option. We are hoping that the situation will get better. We will decide as per the situation,” the BCCI official said.
Just In- BCCI to arrange for safe passage for all participants. “The BCCI also said that it will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021,” BCCI said in a statement.
Just In – “IPL has been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not cancelled. It is just suspended for now,” Rajeev Shukla said.
IPL 2021 Suspended: IPL Statement: “The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect,” the BCCI said in a statement.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind,” BCCI’s statement added.

The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect.
“These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times,” the statement read.
“The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchisees, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried their best to organise IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times,” it said.

IPL 2021 Suspended: Delhi-leg worst hit by Covid-19
With Delhi hitting new records in COVID-19 cases every day, it was a gamble on BCCI’s part to ahead with IPL at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. However, with the latest development, it has thrown the tournament into chaos. With five DDCA ground staff testing positive for the novel Coronavirus, it is likely that they have come in close contact with players and other support staff.
Hence, isolating all including players are the norm as per IPL COVID-19 guidelines. As per the IPL Covid guidelines, “close contact” of an affected person should “isolate for six days” and return “3 negative tests on Day 1, 3 and 6”.
