IPL 2021 Auction Prediction: The former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has been making some big predictions for the upcoming IPL 2021 auctions, planned to be held in February. The cricketer-turner-commentator shared videos on his Youtube Channel, where he gave his predictions on which players could teams target for the IPL 2021.
IPL 2021 Auction Prediction — Rajasthan Royals:
Chopra believes that with Smith gone, RR will need overseas batsmen as a backup to Jos Buttle, Ben Stokes and David Miller. “They need overseas batsmen because they have Buttler, Stokes and Miller. They have three but quite a few times they might have to play all three because they don’t have Smith. So, they would need at least one batsman as backup and you might want to play someone ahead of Miller,” he said.
Picking his best XI for RR, he added that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Butler will start as openers, followed by Sanju Samson at No.3. Stokes will be at No.4. “If I make their team, they have Yashasvi Jaiswal and Buttler as openers, Samson at No.3, Stokes at No.4, Riyan Parag/Manan Vohra at No.6. So, I need an overseas player at No.5. Tewatia comes at No.7 and then it looks alright,” observed Chopra.
“So their batting will remain a little overseas dominated. I doubt they will look towards Glenn Maxwell. This is not the team who will look towards Maxwell.
“It is also certain that they will not take Smith back because why would you leave him otherwise. They could go for Dawid Malan, left-handed top-order batsman. They could look towards Roy or Finch. So, they might want to take one out of these three.
“They need Indian batsmen in my opinion because they don’t want to play three overseas batsmen, which is not ideal any which way. I don’t know who that guy is, could be Gurkeerat Mann. Why did you let Rahane go? You should have kept him, he would been of use to you now,” concluded Aakash Chopra.
IPL 2021 Auction Prediction — Chennai Super Kings:
Aakash Chopra opined that although CSK has bought Robin Uthappa, it is unlikely he will be in playing XI. Because they have Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis for the position. “If you see the story of the last 4-5 years, they like to have overseas openers. They have let Murali Vijay go and taken Robin Uthappa. But I don’t think Robin Uthappa will be their sure-shot first side starter. Because they have Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina and then Dhoni. So in that case, Robbie may not fit in. I feel Ruturaj will be the first-choice opener but who opens with him is a question.
“They have 7 total slots available. When I made their team, I had Rayudu to open with Ruturaj, then Raina, Faf, Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, Karn Sharma, Josh Hazlewood and Shardul Thakur/Deepak Chahar. They can actually play with 8 Indians as well but will want to play with 7 only. I feel they need an overseas opener or top-order batsman,” he said.
He predicted that CSK might go for Glenn Maxwell, who can also bowl off-spin. “I won’t be surprised if they are thinking about Glenn Maxwell because they do not have an off-spinner and it will not be easy to get an off-spinner in the auction. If they want to get someone to open and Dhoni can do this, they can go with Maxwell and see what happens,” stated Aakash Chopra.
Other player CSK can go for according to Chopra are Steve Smith, Aaron Finch and Jason Roy. David Malan will also be on the three-time IPL champions radar. “The other option is they could try to acquire Steve Smith. They can go for one out of Finch or Roy. So they will have these 3-4 options. David Malan is another option but Dhoni’s track record says that he goes for tried and tested players. So, I am going with Maxwell, Smith, Finch or Roy”.
Talking about CSK’s spin department, he said that Jalaj Saxena will be available for the auction and Krishnappa Gowtham too. The twoo can give a good advantage to CSK. “When I see towards the spinners, I feel they will need an offie because they don’t have one. Jalaj Saxena will be available in the auction but I am thinking about Krishnappa Gowtham. They might consider him as an option because he has been released by Kings XI Punjab. Knowing Dhoni, he will go for Gowtham ahead of Saxena,” he said.
Predicting on the playing XI, he said: “When I see their lineup, it is not that bad an XI. I feel this year will not be that bad. With Raina coming back and Gaikwad and Jaddu’s stature growing, you will find this team still has the competitiveness and will win quite a few encounters”.
IPL 2021 Auction Prediction — Royal Challengers Bangalore:
“RCB have 11 total slots vacant, out of which three are overseas slots. So, you feel that they have to shop whole-heartedly because they don’t have the overseas options in the playing XI ready. They have AB de Villiers, Joshua Phillipe, Zampa, Kane Richardson and Daniel Sams. But are four out of these five going to play, I doubt it,” Chopra said.
“RCB will run after Mitchell Starc if he is available. They have money, so they can run after him. They can go to 15-19 crores also if they wish to do so,” he stated.
“I also see them running after Cameron Green because they do not have anyone in their middle order. They will also run after an opener. They have let Finch go, so Roy and Dawid Malan are the only ones left,” Chopra added.
